    I Took the Stairs

This is just a picture of my old wooden stairs. It was just a black and white I was shooting for fun. The more I looked at this picture the more I thought of the concept of taking the stairs of life. Some of us move to the top in life very fast and some of us take much longer, slower routes. Baton Rouge Heart

This Photo was shot from the Port Allen side of Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the heat of July. I had just recently moved to Baton Rouge from Mobile, Alabama and although I spent many holidays and summers here with family it took a while to feel like it was my home. Lake of Silence

This photo was shot near the campus of LSU. Louisiana is one of my favorite states for many reasons. I spent the best days of my childhood here with my grandparents. The nature, the beautiful peacefulness, and of course my favorite thing, the gorgeous mallards, all take me back to a simpler time. This poem speaks of missed opportunities and fear that prevents us from being our most authentic selves. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Let me know how it makes you feel.

I often think of the benches that are usually empty as I walk past them and who I would like to sit with for a day. My thoughts went to friends and family who have passed and to people who have drifted out of my life. I think the empty bench concept is one that a lot of poets use to view conversations and emotions that can not be held anymore due to unfortunate circumstances. Let me know if…
